The Early Development Network is a partnership between Grand Island Public Schools (GIPS), Early Childhood Special Education Programs, rural MED Management Resources Services Coordination, and other community organizations that work with children and families to provide early intervention services that are voluntary and free.

The mission of the GIPS/Early Development Network is to enhance the development of children with disabilities by providing an array of family-centered services to meet their individual needs.

WHAT WE DO

The Early Development Network offers a wide range of services to support your child's development. This includes, but is not limited to, informing you of developmental expectations, community resources and program eligibility. The primary coach will assist you in recognizing what you are already doing to promote learning for your child. The primary coach will also help you discover new learning opportunities based on your child's interests and strengths in your family's daily activities.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Family members are an important part of the team. In addition, your child's team may include:

• Speech language pathologist
• Occupational therapist
• Physical therapist
• Early childhood specialist
• School psychologist
• Services coordinator
• Other specialists as needed

HOW YOU GET STARTED

If you have questions about your child's development at any step from birth to age five, we are here to help. Once you contact the Early Development Network, a service coordinator and primary coach will be assigned to your team and will set up a time to meet with you in your home. Your team will be available to answer any questions you may have. A plan for assessing your child will be discussed and developed with you.

An evaluation team consisting of professionals within the school district (including yourself, your primary coach, and sometimes a service coordinator) will determine if your child meets state eligibility guidelines for free and appropriate early intervention services and education.
