Summer School & Activities

      GIPS Summer Programs

      • All students have the opportunity to take part in summer activities at Grand Island Public Schools! 

        GIPS summer programming, sports camps, and extra learning opportunities are for different ages and grade levels — including Islander Athletics. Check the list below for details on dates, and times. Please note the High School level sports camps may carry registration fees.

      Summer Meals

        Dodge Elementary 

        • Dates:  June 2 - July 18 (no meals served on July 3rd & 4th)

        • Breakfast:  Monday - Thursday; 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. (only in June)

        • Lunch:  Monday - Friday; 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

         

        Howard Elementary

        • Dates:  June 2 - July 18 (no meals served on July 3rd & 4th)

        • Breakfast:  Monday - Thursday; 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. (only in June)

        Shoemaker Elementary

        Starr Elementary

        • June 2 - June 27

          • Breakfast:  Monday - Thursday; 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. (only in June)

          • Lunch: Monday - Friday; 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

        • June 30 - July 18 (no meals served on July 3rd & 4th)
          • Lunch: Monday - Friday; 11:00 - 12:30 p.m.

         

        Grand Island Senior High (Enter through Door 2)

        • Dates:  June 2 - June 27

        • Breakfast:  Monday - Thursday; 7:30 - 8:00 a.m.

        • Lunch:  Monday - Friday; 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.


        Meals are free for children ages 1-18. No application needed. Adults may purchase a meal for $5.50.

        Sites may close early due to low participation. Follow GIPS Eats on Facebook for updates.

      Elementary

      • ELEMENTARY (K - 5) SUMMER PROGRAMMING


        BUS ROUTES

        Power Camp at Starr Elementary

        • Dates:  June 2 - June 26

        • Time:  12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

        • Details:  Students in grades 2nd-5th that attend Dodge, Jefferson, Knickrehm, Howard, Lincoln, Starr, Wasmer, or West Lawn may register.  POWER Camp is a summer camp opportunity that encourages students to continue to learn, be active, and interact with others throughout the Summer months. It provides students with enriching learning experiences that they might not experience in the regular school setting.

        “Summer Strong” @ Starr elementary

        • Details:  Students at Title I Elementary Schools who qualify for the “Summer Strong” Academic Program will be hosted at Starr Elementary.

        • Details:  Dodge Elementary is back with their annual Summer learning fun!  Qualified Dodge students will have the opportunity to engage in additional creative and academic learning opportunities throughout the summer.

        “ELevate Summer School” - EL Summer Program @ Stolley Park 

        • Dates:  June 3 - June 26

        • Time:  8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

        • Details:  Kindergarten - 12th Grade Newcomers and 9th - 12th Grade EL Students are welcome to join the “ELevate Summer School” fun at Stolley Park Elementary School.  Qualified Newcomer and EL students will have the opportunity to continue building connections with others and exploring the English language through fun learning opportunities.

        K-5 ESY @ Shoemaker

        • Details:  Students who qualify for extended school year (ESY) services through special education programs will have the opportunity to enjoy summer programming hosted at Shoemaker Elementary.

      • MIDDLE SCHOOL (6-8) SUMMER PROGRAMMING:

         

        Art Camp @ GISH

        • Dates:  June 9 - June 12

        • Time:  8:00 - 11:45 a.m.

        • Meals:  Breakfast and Lunch available at GISH (Door 2)

        • Details:  Current middle school students will have the opportunity to join a week-long arts camp held at Grand Island Senior High School.  Come learn new art techniques, spend time with others who love art and design.

        Robotics Camp @ GISH

        • Dates:  June 9 - June 12

        • Time:  8:00 - 11:45 a.m.

        • Meals:  Breakfast and Lunch available at GISH (Door 2)

        • Details:  Current middle school students will have the opportunity to join a week-long arts camp held at Grand Island Senior High School.  Provide engaging, engineering-based activities with Robotics to give students a taste of what GISH has to offer in the future.

        Jumpstart6 @ Barr, Walnut, & Westridge

        • Dates:  July 30-31 at all three Middle Schools

        • Details:  All incoming 6th Graders are invited to get an early glimpse into the middle school experience!  Visit classes, meet teachers, get locker assignments, learn about extracurricular activities, and more.
