Hot Weather Reminders - 8.20.23

GIPS News logo

August 20, 2023

Dear GIPS Families,

Elevated summer temperatures are expected this week. We wanted to share a few friendly reminders with you as we prepare for school.

  • All schools will be in session at regular times this week and bus routes will run as normally scheduled.

  • Families are encouraged to transport your student to school this week, if you can, instead of walking.

  • Please send your student to school with a clear water bottle if you can.

  • We have working air conditioning in all district schools and buildings.

  • As the heat index rises, we will be prepared to host all school activities inside if necessary.

  • Middle School and High School Activities Directors are working on adjusted schedules for practices and competitions. They will communicate details as needed.

We are continuing to monitor the forecast and conditions.  If anything changes, we will let you know.

Also, there are a number of community organizations such as the Salvation Army that will be providing services and support for families seeking relief from the heat.  We encourage families seeking additional relief to reach out to those helpful groups.

For now, please plan on joining us at school tomorrow for a fun day of learning.

Thank you for helping keep students safe!

- Mr. Matt Fisher
Interim Superintendent, Grand Island Public Schools
