Westridge Vocal Music Department is under the direction of Mrs. Amaryah Jenkins and Mrs. Julie Sackschewsky. Each year the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade choirs perform a Winter Concert and a Spring "Pops" Concert. Students learn to sing a variety of different kinds of music with proper technique to appeal to all ages of their audience. Concerts are held at Grand Island Senior High in the auditorium, and are well-attended by both the families of the singers, and community members.
Westridge also has a show choir called “Encore.” This group is made up of 7th and 8th grade vocal music students who audition in the beginning of the school year. Students in Encore practice Monday-Wednesday-Friday mornings at 7:00 am to learn to sing and dance, and put together a complete show for competitions. They compete in two competitions, as well as perform as a showcase for the Islander Invite at GISH. Previous awards won by this group include: Gold Award at Nebraska Choral Directors Association competition in Central City, Grand Champion of the Middle School Division at the Northeast Jazz Festival in Norfolk, and Runner Up and Best Vocals at Lewis Central Middle School in Council Bluffs, IA.
Westridge is very proud of their music department and participants!
