Grand Island Public Schools (GIPS) is focused on instruction, positive supports for students, professional learning communities, and recruitment and retention of staff. Staff impact everything the district does to support students for success, and the district and board of education recognize this.

The Grand Island Education Association (GIEA) and GIPS reached a negotiated agreement for the 2024-2025 school year and are aligned on supporting teachers who will in turn support our students. The agreement was approved by the GIPS Board of Education after reconvening from the Executive Session at last evening’s Board meeting.

Notable changes in next year’s agreement will include:

  • Certified staff who aggressively pursue advanced degrees and additional endorsements have the ability to move multiple columns in one year

  • The certified staff sick leave policy was revised to incentivize attendance and teacher loyalty to the district.

“The Grand Island Education Association negotiating team was pleased to present the 2024-2025 proposal to our members.” Michelle Carter, 5th Grade Teacher at Dodge Elementary and GIEA President, said, "It was a pleasure to work collaboratively with the district team to offer a package to our certified staff that valued their hard work and expertise. Our members unanimously approved the proposal."

The Board of Education also approved a 3.9451% increase for salaries and benefits.  GIPS remains focused on supporting its teachers in the classroom and beyond.  Part of that focus includes taking care of teachers and staff through competitive compensation and benefits.

“I believe this agreement reached between the GIPS Board of Education and our teachers signifies a commitment to work together for the benefit of our students and the community.” Matt Fisher, GIPS Superintendent, said, “The board recognizes the importance of continuing to keep teacher pay competitive so we can keep the outstanding teachers we have as well as attracting new teachers.  I believe the teachers feel the board's commitment to them and see GIPS as a good place to work.”

Administrative and classified staff compensation packages will be addressed in the Spring of 2024 for the 2024-25 school year.
